Dominic was a parishioner of Holy Spirit Church. He was generous to people in need and gave to St. Jude’s Hospital every month and never looked for accolades. He owned a piece of property on State Street which he donated to Volunteers of America.
Jack was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church. He was a champion for the poor and underserved in a number of different ways, notably as The Organizer of MetroAct and the CEO of Regional Council on Aging. He went to work for the Diocese of Rochester as a Canon lawyer and consulted at the same in the northeast and Canada. Jack founded the Tanzania Action Team at St. Joseph's Church following a trip to Tanzania in 2010. He loved children and tutored for many years for the Wayne Central School district.
Kim was a parishioner of Holy Spirit. She was very involved with Breast Cancer Foundation. Kim’s favorite quote was: “Don't you know yet? It is your light that lights the world."
Katie worked at VA Hospital in Virginia, then in the Medical Dept of the U.S. State Department as an Administrative Secretary. She worked for many years in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. State Dept. She traveled to Germany and was a part of the State Department staff that assisted in the January 1981 release of the U.S. hostages from Iran. In 2018 she moved to Rochester and joined St. Joseph’s with her niece, Grace – they attended 4:30 Saturday Mass together.
Grace’s faith was important to her. A devoted participant in the congregational life of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Webster from the time it was built in 1968, Grace regularly attended mass and served on the Parish Council. Grace also served her community as a member of various committees in the Town of Penfield.
Maryann was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph’s. During her career as a registered nurse, she cared for patients at the bedside and later taught students at the Isabella Graham Hart School of Practical Nursing in Rochester. She then became an estate paralegal and utilized her knowledge, compassion, and sensitivity to counsel families following the loss of a loved one. A woman of Catholic faith, Maryann’s outlook on life and her role in the world reflected the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi: “While we have time, let us do good.” Many in the community will remember Maryann for her volunteer work alongside her colleagues at the Shepherd Home, a comfort care home in Penfield for the terminally ill. There, she tended to the residents and their families with her customary compassion, devotion, and kindness.
Tony was a faithful Catholic attending Mass every weekend. He was a parishioner at Holy Spirit. At Holy Spirit, Tony was a counter and a member of the Finance Team. He had a long career in banking – Beginning in 1955 as a note teller at Central Trust Company. He progressed through the ranks culminating 50 years later as a Vice President with M&T Bank.
Wanda graduated from Plattsburgh State Teacher's College in 1950 as a School Nurse Teacher. She and her first husband moved to Penfield from Long Island in 1958 where they raised their family. Wanda went back to work in 1969 as a School Nurse at Palmyra- Macedon High School, retiring in 1990. She was a parishioner of Holy Spirit
Mary Jane was a longtime parishioner at St. Joseph’s. She was a daily Mass Minister of Communion until she moved to the Legacy and then was instrumental in offering Communion to the residents of Grand Vie for as long as she could drive. Mary Jane was also a sacristan for many years. Every Friday, after attending mass, she would take part in saying the rosary, then would join the sacristan team after that. Mary Jane spent much of her life caring for her large family and in service to her various Catholic Church communities in Rochester and Florida. She ended her lifelong service as a volunteer at the nursing home at age 88.
Betty was a very private person and very quiet but was also a good listener. She got her strength from within. Betty never said a bad thing about anyone and very kind to all.
Ron was a parishioner of Holy Spirit. He was a well-known life insurance agent for over 50 years in the Rochester community who just wanted to help people. Ron served ten years as a Board Member/fundraiser for Strong Children’s Hospital (now known as Golisano’s Children Hospital); Current Board Member/fundraiser and Secretary for Monroe Community Hospital Foundation; Current Honorary Board Member/fundraiser for Wilmot Cancer Institute. Ron was a devoted parishioner of Holy Spirit for 20+ years, a Minister of Communion, an usher – He was always present!
Joe was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s for 68 years. He and his wife were active in the church. He was an usher, and his wife Betty (deceased in 2022) was a weekly collection money counter. They passed out the bulletins together for many years after the Saturday 5:00 PM Mass. Joe had a 40-year career at Eastman Kodak Company.
Isabel was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s. Her career as a legal secretary began with the US Airforce. Isabell began her next career, outside her home, at McQuaid Jesuit HS as a “principal” secretary. Her strong faith was evident by her weekly Sunday Mass attendance, her evening prayer of the rosary and her devotion to Our Blessed Mother. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Women’s Group.
Neal had a successful career as a mechanical engineer at Xerox for 31 years prior to retiring and moving to Shallotte, North Carolina. He and his wife Cindy were parishioners of St. Joseph’s for 35 years before moving to NC. They recently relocated back to the Rochester area after living in North Carolina for 30 years. Neal was known for his commitment to service and volunteerism. He worked the Wednesday overnight shift at Penfield Volunteer Emergency Ambulance (PVEA) for 20 years.
Tom was a parishioner at Holy Spirit. He worked at L.M. Berry Co. selling yellow page advertising for over 25 years where he was very successful due to his outgoing personality.
Barb was a parishioner at St. Josephs since 1982. Over her many years at St. Joseph, she was a part of the fund-raising committee, as well as several other committees, and served on the parish council. She had a very long career working at M&T Bank in the Special Assets Loan Department.
Sharon was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s since 2003. In Sharon’s earlier years, she loved volunteering at the children’s schools and over the years she was involved in booster clubs and Boy Scouts. She was a full-time homemaker until she went to work as a coordinator of production programing at Xerox Corp., where she was employed for 14 years.
Art moved to Penfield in 2011 and joined St. Joseph’s and became an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was described as genuine and humble, generous with his time and spirit and someone who always saw the best in people.
Matt was an attorney who worked for the City of Rochester, Monroe County and most recently for the New York State Office of the Attorney General. He received the Lefkowitz Award last year; the highest award given to employees at the Attorney General’s Office. Matt was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s for about 14 years. Matt was a Cub Scout leader at St. Joseph when his son was younger.
John was a parishioner at Holy Spirit Church. He worked many years, along with other family members, at United Dry Cleaner. He went on to own and grow the Julian’s Dry Cleaner business.
