Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners established the Knights of Columbus in 1882 as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.
Our Councils are joined in common purpose with 14,000 Knights of Columbus councils in North America and around the world. Guided not only by our belief in God and the Catholic Church, but by our belief in each other, and in ourselves, we are the Knights of Columbus. Believing that a person is defined by actions as followers of God, and as leaders in this community. Believing that a person is more effective participating in a community of Knights of Columbus.
The Knights of Columbus is an organization fortified by its past, and driven by its goals for the future. It is through these six areas of service that we truly make a difference: Faith, Community, Family, Youth, Consistent Ethic of Life, Fellowship.
Of the countless rewards Knighthood offers, perhaps the most inviting is this. The knowledge that, as a Knight, you can make a difference. Through fearless service. Through heartfelt perseverance. And above all, through unfaltering community support!
